The traffic out of Paris was crazy this morning. Therefore, we were a bit behind schedule. However, Virginie our guide, was the only one who had to worry about that! She expertly flipped our schedule around so that we ate our picnic lunch first, then were able to tour the Guedelon castle. Just like with children, always best to make sure the group is fed! There were many times where we "pre-ordered" our meals, so that upon arrival everything is ready for us. Again, just another brilliant way the tour maximizes our time! We feasted upon yummy sandwiches and I kid you not THE BEST ECLAIRE I've ever eaten! Then we were ready to tour the medieval castle that they are building using 13th century methods. It was incredible and makes me wonder how ANYTHING was built before power tools.
Our afternoon adventure was the town of Bourges where we only spent one night, which was a shame, as our hotel was lovely, as well as the town! We were given a walking tour of the town by a local guide which included the impressive Bourges Cathedral. Our group dinner was located at a charming restaurant where we were given outside tables to enjoy the weather and the views. In the evening the town of Bourges has a light show at various locations around town. The major problem, for me at least, is that it doesn't get dark in the summer until quite late. So staying awake until the light show started was exhausting! We compromised and ended up seeing only part of the light show that was closest to the hotel so then we could easily stagger to our room and fall asleep! The tour keeps us busy and we tend to get up early and head to bed late. This is probably why I would fall asleep on the bus during the day!
